Grand Prix of the Americas - Why you should go...

Since joining the MotoGP World Championship as a brand-new venue in 2013, the Circuit of the Americas has become firmly established as a highlight for fans and competitors alike.

The whole paddock looks forward to its annual trip to the USA and here are just some of the reasons why you should try and join them at this year's event, from April 20-22…

The Circuit: A Modern Classic

Local hero Kevin Schwantz no less helped design the 3.41-mile, 20-turn circuit layout.

The 1993 500cc world champion was inspired by some of the most memorable sections of track from his own racing career, including the Maggots-Becketts curves at Silverstone and stadium section at Hockenheim.

But the COTA lap begins with something completely unique: A huge 40-metre uphill rise to Turn 1, the scene of many classic overtakes and iconic images.

However there's no time to enjoy the view since the downhill plunge that follows leads into the daunting Turn 2 right-hander, another of the most imposing corners on the circuit.

Handling and riding skill then takes priority through a series of undulating Esses, before the 214mph (345km/h) back straight puts horsepower to the ultimate test. Riders can then be seen throwing a rear wheel into the air as they hit the brakes and slide their way into Turn 12.

The quick Turn 16-17-18 right handers are another COTA centrepiece, with two 90-degree left handers inviting a last-gasp pass before the chequered flag.

Austin: An Amazing City

'Live Music Capital of the World' and 'Keep Austin Weird' are two of the slogans by which the city is proudly known.

The former refers to the large number of music venues that (literally) form the beating heart of downtown Austin. The latter reflects the city's desire to retain its unique identity by supporting local businesses and boutique shops.

There is an international airport close to the track and don’t forget the food! If you're a fan of Texas BBQ Austin is culinary heaven!

Who Will Finally Beat Marquez?

Nothing lasts forever, but how long can MotoGP champion Marc Marquez keep his perfect Austin record alive? The Honda star's love affair with the circuit began with his very first MotoGP win in 2013 and he has won all five events to date.

Maverick Vinales looked set for a Texas showdown with Marquez last season, but fell early in the race - will we finally see the two Spaniards go toe-to-toe in 2018?

Ride The Track!

The COTA Corral Package includes a Grandstand seat, premium motorcycle parking, a Swag Bag… and a Motorcycle Parade Lap on your own bike!

Moto2, Moto3 And MotoAmerica

While nothing in the two-wheeled world can rival the speed and noise of a MotoGP machine, some of the most thrilling racing often takes place in the fierce Moto2 and Moto3 support classes.

COTA is also the only MotoGP event that features the home-grown MotoAmerica Superbike Championship.

Kids Enter For Free

Last, but certainly not least for those bringing their family, Kids 12 and under can enter the COTA MotoGP for free when accompanied by a ticketed adult.
