Oettl fastest in FP1 as Martin suffers hand fracture

The German was 0.339 quicker than the Spaniard but a crash at Turn 10 means Martin will miss the Czech GP

Philipp Oettl (Sudmetal Schedl GP Racing) was the quickest rider in the Moto3™ FP1 session at the Monster Energy Grand Prix České republiky, going quickest with a 2:09.194 to finish 0.339 seconds ahead of second place Jorge Martin (Del Conca Gresini Moto3). However, the Championship leader suffered a heavy crash at Turn 10 which resulted in a left hand fracture, meaning Martin will head back to Barcelona for surgery and miss this weekend's Czech GP.

John McPhee (CIP – Green Power) rounded out the top three on the circuit he won at in 2016, with Aron Canet (Estrella Galicia 0,0) 0.446 back from Oettl in fourth and home rider Jakub Kornfeil (Redox PrustelGP) having a good opening session in fifth.

The lightweight class will be back out on track for FP2 at 13:10 local time (GMT +2).
