Suzuki MotoGP bike catches fire in Sepang pit lane

One of the Suzuki GSX-RR bikes used by Alex Rins has caught fire during Thursday's build-up at Sepang in the pit lane causing dramatic scenes and hefty damage.

While Suzuki mechanics were warming up the MotoGP machine and running system checks, the bike was accidentally set on fire following a fuel overflow on the exhaust. The bike quickly caught alight, with flames engulfing it, before Suzuki mechanics and marshals were able to safely put out the fire.

While Suzuki mechanics were warming up the MotoGP machine and running system checks, the bike was accidentally set on fire following a fuel overflow on the exhaust. The bike quickly caught alight, with flames engulfing it, before Suzuki mechanics and marshals were able to safely put out the fire.

Nobody was injured in the incident but the bike will require a complete repair job overnight due to the damage sustained.

But the damage to the bike isn’t thought to hamper Rins’ race weekend in Malaysia with spare parts and engines still available in the Spanish rider’s allocation.
